WHO is the eclipse for? Anyone in its path may view the eclipse (including northern NH and VT)
WHAT is the eclipse? A solar eclipse happens when at just the right moment the moon passes between the sun and the earth, obscuring the view of the sun from a small part of the earth
WHERE will the eclipse be seen? The total solar eclipse may be seen if you are in it’s path of totality. Near us, the path of totality is from Lancaster north.
WHEN is the eclipse? April 8, 2024. In Lancaster, the partial eclipse begins at 2:16 p.m and the total eclipse begins at 3:27 p.m with the final exit of the moon shadow from the state at 3:31 p.m.
WHY is it special? Total solar eclipses are rare events. Although they occur somewhere on Earth every 18 months on average, it is estimated that they recur at any given place only once every 360 to 410 years, on average.
HOW do you safely view the eclipse? The only safe way to look directly at the sun during an eclipse is through special-purpose solar filters, like eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers. Remember the only safe time to look at the sun without solar filters is during the 2-4 minutes of total eclipse.
